A 160-lb. dog injured its paw while hiking with its owner

On Facebook, a post shared by Cannon Beach RFPD showed the heartwarming rescue of an injured dog.

They wrote on Facebook: “On July 12, 2024, this beautiful 160lbs great pyrenees was hiking saddle mountain when he suddenly refused to keep walking. The poor babies paws were raw/cut and needed assistance down.”

According to Cannon Beach RFPD, at Saddle Mountain, Oregon, a Great Pyrenees suddenly stopped walking while hiking with its owner.

The dog’s raw paws were reported to be injured from the copious welded wire fencing scattered along the trail.

After receiving the report of the dog’s incident, the Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District, alongside volunteers from Hamlet, Gearhart, and Seaside, responded swiftly..

In the image shared by Cannon Beach RFPD, the fire department depict rescuers carefully carrying the large white dog down the mountain on a stretcher.

They made a rescue effort to save the 160-lb. dog and ensured its safety amidst challenging trail conditions.

As photos were shared, the trail was highlighted with steep and rocky terrain, including extensive welded wire fencing designed to improve traction but posing risks to pets.

The post also decripted: “The trail has copious amounts of welded wire fencing on the ground to provide traction and stability of the trail. Many of these sharp wires are sticking straight up”

The fire department cautioned that these wires, some with protruding ends, can cause severe injuries to animals.

After the rescue, the dog was safe.

Despite the successful rescue, the rescuers also advised dog owners to consider using protective booties for their pets when hiking.
