Groot – a new dawn for Cleo
When Cleo, a sweet senior dog, entered her 11th year.
She was described with her muzzle had whitened with age, showed he step into her twilight stage of her life.
However, a new dawn emerged with the arrival of a rambunctious kitten named Groot. Initially, Cleo was skeptical of her new energetic co-pet, but Groot’s loving nature soon won her over.
“She became his friend,” said Asya Cutrino, the pets’ owner. “As time went by, they bonded.”
A blossoming friendship between Cleo and Groot
The strong bond between Groot and Cleo is a prove to their beautiful friendship.
Groot pounces and hugs his senior dog friend, while Cleo seems to greatly enjoy the affection from the cat. Despite their differences, the two found comfort in each other’s company, often nestled side by side in harmony.
However, their joyous companionship was not to last forever.
Cleo died one week after falling ill
After 10 months of friendship, Cleo fell ill and passed away a week later. The loss was palpable, not just for the family but for Groot as well.
“Groot would sit at the front door, waiting for her to come back,” Cutrino said The Dodo. “She was depressed.”
It was evident that Groot felt as though half of her was missing.
Cutrino created a large portrait of Cleo as a heartfelt memorial
To honor Cleo’s memory, Cutrino and her family created a large portrait of the beloved dog to hang on the wall. This portrait became a source of solace, not only for the family but also for Groot.
After hanging the portrait, Cutrino noticed Groot frequently stopping by to gaze at it, gently stroking Cleo’s face with a tender paw. “Me and my whole family cried a lot when he did it,” Cutrino shared.
With time, the sharp pain of losing Cleo softened into a bittersweet remembrance. Groot continued to visit the portrait, and whenever Cutrino watched old videos of Cleo, Groot would rush to see if she was there, barking as if hoping to see her again.
While nothing could replace Cleo in the hearts of Groot and her family, their capacity for love remained undiminished. Recently, they adopted a new kitten whose playful presence brought renewed happiness into their lives.
Although the new kitten never met Cleo, she has seen her photo. In many ways, Cleo’s spirit remains ever-present in their home. “She is always here, in us and in Groot,” Cutrino said.
The story of Cleo and Groot is a testament to the powerful bonds that can form between pets.
