The dog quietly waits on a mattress after being abandoned by his owners, who left him along with their trash.
When a family was evicted from their home, their belongings and their loyal dog, Boo, were left behind.
Abandoned and alone, Boo waited on the curb for a month until Dustin Oliver intervened, offering the dog a chance at a new beginning.
Boo’s abandonment and rescue
Boo was left alone among discarded belongings, heartbroken and starving.
A neighbor witnessed the family’s return to collect additional items but saw that Boo was completely ignored.
The concerned neighbor took a poignant photo of Boo lying dejectedly among the trash and posted it on Facebook.
According to Dustin Oliver, the family returned to retrieve their belongings but left Boo and other items behind.
“They came back and took what they wanted and left behind what they didn’t. Including Boo,” Oliver explained.
Distressed by the scene, the neighbor knew immediate action was needed to help Boo find a loving home.
The image quickly gained traction, shared by thousands of animal lovers who were moved by Boo’s plight.
The photo eventually reached Mike Diesel, a man determined to offer Boo the life he deserved.
Boo faced a long wait for a fresh start
For two days, Oliver worked tirelessly to coax Boo away from his mattress, which he had clung to for comfort and because it still smelled of his former family.
“We just had a conversation, me and Boo. I told him how this is going to go, how he’ll never be hurt again,” Oliver recounted.
With patience and several Egg McMuffins, Oliver successfully persuaded Boo to get into his truck.
This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the dog.
Boo is recovering and starting a new chapter at the veterinary hospital.
Boo has been recuperating at a veterinary hospital for the past week and a half.
Oliver reports that Boo is “doing amazing” and has started to come out of his shell.
Despite his progress, Boo is heartworm positive and will require about six months of treatment.
Oliver is currently seeking a foster home for Boo, hoping someone will fall in love with him and consider adopting him permanently. [Here’s how to reach out if you can help.
Oliver’s commitment extends beyond Boo.
He is also involved in raising funds for other dogs in need and preparing meals for those at a local church.
Oliver emphasizes that his work goes beyond dog rescue: “We are way, way, way more than a dog rescue. I’m attempting to heal the entire community.”
As of October 29, Boo has moved into a foster home with a family Oliver describes as “perfect.”
The hope is that this family will find Boo to be just as perfect and will adopt him once his heartworm treatment is complete.
