Layla and Lola’s journey began at their local animal shelter, where they sought comfort in each other while waiting for their family to return.
Despite being picked up by their owners, the sisters’ time outside the shelter was short-lived. They were returned to the shelter two more times, and during their third stay, they clung to one another, hoping for a miracle.
Days passed without any interest from potential adopters, until Humans and Animals United (HAAU) saw their picture.
Time was running out, so Rosa Fond, HAAU’s founder, raised emergency funds and searched extensively for a foster home that could take both dogs.
Layla and Lola, unaware of the efforts being made on their behalf, settled in for what they thought was their last night at the shelter.
A new beginning for Layla and Lola
The next day, HAAU volunteers arrived at the shelter to claim Layla and Lola.
The relieved pups couldn’t contain their excitement, and their gratitude brought tears to everyone’s eyes. “Seeing them leave the shelter [that] kept them safe until we arrived brings tears to our eyes,” HAAU wrote on Facebook. “The girls have a new beginning, and this time, it will be a forever happily ever after!”
Volunteers transported Layla and Lola to a veterinary hospital for thorough health exams, both passing with flying colors and becoming eligible for foster care.
Fortunately, a loving foster family offered to take both girls in for as long as needed. “They are bonded. We would never [separate] them,” HAAU wrote on Facebook. “They need [and] depend on each other. [It’s] the only way to do right by these girls.”
Layla and Lola are settling into a foster home, finding their lives changed anew.
Layla and Lola quickly fell in love with their temporary family. While still on the hunt for a forever home, the two pups are soaking up all the love their current family has to offer.
“As promised, these girls have been kept together,” HAAU wrote on Facebook. “Fully vetted, they are settling in perfectly at their foster home.”
The HAAU team eagerly anticipates the day when Layla and Lola find their forever home. Until then, they take comfort in knowing the girls are happier than ever and that their lives will continue to improve. “They are definitely lucky girls,” HAAU wrote in a Facebook comment.
After finding a new home for Layla and Lola, @humansandanimalsunited posted on their personal page to congratulate the newfound happiness of Layla and Lola.
They wrote: “The girls have a new beginning and this time it will be a forever happily ever after! Seeing them leave the shelter who kept them safe until we arrived brings tears to our eyes. It was a celebration which we would like to share with all of you! Thank you for helping us save these girls! It wasn’t an easy task as we had to work through a holiday weekend but we did it!!!!!”
