Thailand is home to hundreds of thousands of wild monkeys, including gibbons, macaques, langurs, and lorises, which roam free and attract tourists.

These animals often co-exist with human populations and are known to steal food to survive.

However, these monkeys’ health is threatened by the food given by humans, which can lead to severe health issues.

On social media, a viral video captured a concerning moment: an obese monkey named Godzilla has belly ballooned to a dangerous size.

An obese monkey in a Thai market was captured and compared to the late Uncle Fatty, who ‘ate himself to death’.

The monkey, Godzilla, has become obese due to a diet primarily consisting of junk food.

In the bustling Min Buri district of Bangkok, a three-year-old monkey named Godzilla has captured the attention.

In the footage, Godzilla’s belly has ballooned to a dangerous size due to being fed junk food by passersby.

This three-year-old primate has drawn comparisons to the late Uncle Fatty, who was a long-tailed macaque believed to have eaten himself to death.

Godzilla was adopted and cared for by a shopkeeper in a Thai market.

He was initially abandoned by the stall’s previous owner and wandered the market. Then, a kind shopkeeper named Manop adopted him.

Godzilla was fed and cared for well. However, she has struggled to control his weight.

“The rescue team found Godzilla when he was very small. Since he grew up being fed by humans, he does not know how to find food on his own in the wild,” Manop explained.

Many viewers express concern his weight after video went viral

In the comments section, many expressed their shock about Godzilla’s diet and weight issues, warning that his condition could be life-threatening.

One person said: Must have a tumour.

A second wrote: This is horrible.

While a third commented: Thailand, an uncivilized and lawless country.

Another added: These countries are well nown for animal cruelty but alas nothing changes, these people do not get the education to live like humans.

Godzilla faced a challenge about weight

Godzilla now weighs over 20 kilograms, nearing the weight of Uncle Fatty, who tipped the scales at 27 kilograms and was between 10 and 15 years old.

Despite exercising every morning, Godzilla has not been able to lose weight.

Manop mentioned that Godzilla dislikes being touched by strangers and can behave wildly if he dislikes the person. “I bring Godzilla with me to the market, where I can look after him. I don’t like him to be on his own because he gets stressed. A lot of people give Godzilla food, but he only eats from people he likes. He’s very fussy and can get angry if he doesn’t like the person,” Manop shared.

Godzill was compared to Uncle Fatty

Previously, Uncle Fatty, a wild monkey, saw his weight increase after gorging on junk food from passersby in Thailand in 2017.

Fatty became obese because, over the years, it was fed high-calorie and high-sugar food by tourists visiting the area.

Every day, Fatty would just lie in one place and wait for passersby to throw food down. Unlike other monkeys, Fatty ate without restraint and had no stopping point. Its favorite foods were watermelon, milk, popcorn, and bread.

He was later sent to a “fat camp” but went missing in June 2019 and is presumed dead.
