For 11 years, a cat named Cedric has dedicated himself to transforming a wooden banister into a work of art.
His scratches created a unique design that captivated everyone. While, the banister has become a cherished part of the home.
Cedric’s life mission begins
Cedric was rescued as a kitten by Anita Corrie Schellevis.
From the moment he arrived home, it was clear he was no ordinary cat. Despite having access to multiple scratching posts, Cedric fixated on a single wooden banister at the top of the stairs.
“He took to the post right away,” Schellevis said.
Cedric turned banister into a work of art
In 2012, young Cedric began his artistic journey by scratching the pristine banister.
What seemed like a typical feline habit soon turned into a long-term project.
Over the years, Cendric scratched and completely transformed the banister.
As a result, he created incredible art with the unique marks of his claws.
“He scratches at it at least three or four times a day,” Schellevis told the Dodo. “His favorite time to scratch is when visitors come over. He loves to show off.”
Cedric’s artwork has become a family conversation piec
Schellevis has come to accept the artistic changes Cedric has made to her home.
Additionally, she’s never discouraged him from his craft.
Since then, the banister has become a conversation piece, sparking curiosity from anyone who visits.
“He’s proud of himself,” Schellevis said. “The post is in the middle of the house, so it’s very noticeable. My only complaint is the slivers in my shoes!”
Cedric remain dedicated with his art after 11 years.
Even after 11 years, Cedric shows no signs of stopping.
Schellevis shared that the banister, significantly whittled down. Cedric remains dedicated to an unfinished work in progress.
“He scratches at the post at least three or four times a day,” Schellevis said. “His favorite time to scratch it is when people come over to visit. It’s like a show-off thing.”
While, Schellevis understanded Cedric’s artistic drive and continues to support his efforts.
The banister may never return to its original state, but Cedric’s dedication has turned it into something truly unique—his own masterpiece.
