Fable, a hairless dog that looks like a statue with a statuesque appearance, has baffled many.
When people think of pets, they typically imaginHairless animals, like the Sphynx cat, are rare and often unexpected.
These cats, with their wrinkly skin and large eyes, have a reputation for looking “unreal.”’
However, hairless pets aren’t limited to cats—certain breeds of dogs also lack fur, with a statuesque appearance that surprises many.
The Peruvian hairless with a mysterious look
Wendy Scarborough, a dedicated dog rescue volunteer from North Carolina, recently adopted a Peruvian Hairless dog named Fable. With her sleek, hairless skin and distinctive look, Fable is often mistaken for a statue when out in public.
“People say she looks like an Egyptian statue,” Wendy says. “I’m stopped at least five times each time I take her out.”
The Peruvian Hairless breed has a long history, originating in ancient Peru and often depicted in pre-Inca art and pottery. Unlike the Sphynx cat, which was bred in Canada in the 1960s, this breed has existed for centuries.
Fable’s fascinating appearance has drawn attention on social media
On social media, The Caters shared a video on Youtube, showing Fable’s fascinating appearance.
The video has the caption: “Hairless Dog Looks Like Statue”

In the comments section, many viewers expressed their bafflement at Fable’s unique appearance, while others suggested that she is very beautiful and a rare dog.
One person said: This dog looks like the Egyptian God Anubis who was god of the underworld.
A second wrote: My old neighbor had one. She was beautiful!
While a third commented: I think he is lovely but I like fluffy little doggies. I can see why people think he is a statue! Needs a thick coat in winter.
Another added: She looks like the paintings of the dogs on the walls of the Egyptian tombs.
Strangers frequently ask Wendy questions like, “What type of dog is that?” and “What does she feel like?” Many also compare her to the Egyptian god Anubis due to her statuesque demeanor.
“She has such an expressionless face,” Wendy explains. “But she’s very expressive and playful once you know her.”
Peruvian Hairless is a rare breed with a lasting impression
The Peruvian Hairless dog is not just rare; it’s a breed steeped in history and mystique.
The breed nearly became extinct in the 1990s, making breeders rare.
Wendy’s interest in this rare breed led her to search for years, but finding a Peruvian Hairless dog proved challenging. After a long search, Wendy located a breeder in Peru. In May, Fable arrived after a 3,115-mile journey, becoming part of Wendy’s family.
Fable joins Wendy’s family of 16 dogs, a diverse group that includes five Spanish Podencos, two Galgos, and a Golden Retriever, among others.
“All my dogs are like family,” Wendy says. “But Fable is one of the most fascinating. She’s silly and playful at home, far from the statue-like appearance that people often assume.”
