A strange horse had wandered into his home and made herself at home, acting as if she had lived there her entire life.

Confused but amused, Doug quickly posted on Facebook, sharing this humorous moment with many.

The post read: “Is anyone in Highcliff area missing a horse? This one has come inside eaten half my dinner and also my wife’s carrots from garden. We will keep her for a pet if not claimed.”

According to Doug, the horse treated Doug’s house as its own and comfortably ate half of his dinner and all of Doug’s carrots.

However, Doug’s post caught the attention of Ben Telfer-Hynes, Sharq’s owner. Ben explained that Sharq is an indoor horse and is used to wandering around inside homes.

“She’s actually an inside horse, so it was no shock to me when I saw she was lurking inside this man’s home,” Ben told The Dodo. “I’m so glad that she was able to find such a lovely place to reside for a short while.”

A strange horse returns to her owner

Doug was ready to welcome Sharq into his family if no one claimed her, but Ben was relieved to know where she was.

He promptly went to Doug’s house to bring Sharq back home. Sharq, understanding that her adventure was over, obediently followed Ben home.

Sharq’s unexpected visit to Doug’s home had a happy ending. The horse was safely returned to her proper residence, but her story highlights the friendly nature of the Dunedin community. It serves as a reminder that sometimes, even a stranger can become a friend in unexpected ways.
