A hunter discoved the frozen fox
Franz Stehle, a hunter in Germany, discovered a cunning animal in the Danube River.
He believed the animal had fallen through thin ice in Fridingen.
He thinks the animal drowned before quickly freezing. The fox likely fell into the river about four days before its discovery.
Stehle displayed the frozen creature outside his family’s hotel in Fridingen.
The town is located in the upper reaches of the Danube River, near its source in southwestern Germany.
He aimed to warn others about the hazards of the river. “Once I discovered a frozen deer, and have found wild boars three or four times in the past 40 years,” he noted.
Stehle made an effort by cutting the cunning animal free from the ice.
In early January, Stehle used a chainsaw to cut the fox from the ice. He first spotted the animal in December. “I saw the fox’s back shimmering from the ice,” he told the German tabloid Bild.
His son assisted in the recovery effort. After removing the fox, Stehle noticed its legs were not completely frozen.
“We put him in a tub with water, so they also became ice,” he explained.
