Tour guide Jabulani Salinda, aged 49, led a group on a safari when he encountered this unexpected interaction on November 18.
This amusing incident occurred at Baobab Ridge Game Lodge in South Africa.
A hilarious encounter was captured after Salinda was alerted by a colleague about lions nearby.
He attempted to reposition his jeep for a better view. Unfortunately, the vehicle became stuck in the dirt. To free it, the team used a tow rope.
As they tried to rescue the truck, the lion noticed the rope. “Before I could pull the rope back in, it caught the eye of the lion,” Salinda explained. The big cat approached and grabbed the rope, initiating a game of tug-of-war.

At one point, the majestic cat even attempts to wrap the rope around a nearby tree. Even after the truck moves away, the lion stubbornly clings to the rope, getting dragged along like a water-skier across the savannah.
Initially, the safari-goers worried the big cat’s interest in the rope might pose a danger. Salinda reassured them, explaining the lion was not angry but playful. “I calmed them down, and we were all able to enjoy the moment,” he said.
The playful interaction ended when a group of lionesses walked by. The male big cat released the rope to join them. “I’ve been a tour guide for 19 years and I have never known a lion to play like this before,” Salinda remarked.

Kagiso, who has been a guide for 15 years, stated, “I have never seen anything like this before. It was just so funny.”
He noted that the cub is the only one in its litter and was being extra playful that day while his mother tried to rest. The lioness decided to teach him a lesson by giving him a gentle nudge.
