A man cuts a hole and is shocked to find 700 pounds of acorns hidden in his client’s home walls by a woodpecker.
A pest control expert made a mind-blowing discovery in the home of one of his clients and it has now left the internet stunned.
A man was stunned to find 700 pounds of acorns concealed within the walls
Nick Castro, owner of Nick’s Extreme Pest Control in California, has over 20 years of experience in pest control.
Recently, he made a discovery that surprised both him and the internet. Nick Castro, was called to investigate mysterious damage caused by a woodpecker.
Nick Castro discovered that a bird had been pecking holes in the siding of a client’s home, creating storage spaces for acorns.
Castro was shocked to uncover the acorn stash.
At his client’s home, Castro cut into the wall, expecting to find only a small stash of acorns.
But as soon as he made the first cut, acorns began pouring out. “They just kept coming and coming, nonstop,” Castro told The Dodo.
What he initially thought was a small pile turned out to be a massive store, reaching all the way up to the attic.
Opening more sections of the wall revealed even more acorns, amounting to approximately 700 pounds. The sheer volume filled eight large trash bags, all stored by a single determined woodpecker.
Castro took a humane approach with the woodpecker after the incident
The woodpecker had essentially turned the house into an acorn storage hub, drilling holes all over the siding and trim. “The bird had completely destroyed the exterior of the house with holes it had made,” Castro explained. “Acorns were stored everywhere.”
Following Nick’s Extreme Pest Control’s humane approach, Castro and the homeowners simply patched the holes to prevent further storage.
The woodpecker was left to find a new hiding place.
Nick’s Extreme Pest Control adheres to a strict policy: ‘All animals are handled humanely and NEVER euthanized,’ and this incident was no exception.
The homeowners left the woodpecker undisturbed and patched the holes it had made. By adding new vinyl siding, they hope it will encourage the bird to find a new storage spot for its food.
Castro shared photos of the discovery on Facebook, quickly gaining attention.
He wrote: “Came across this on a job. Bird was a bit of a hoarder. Filled up about 8 garbage bags full of acorns weighing in about 700 lbs. Unreal never came across something like this.”
In the comments section, many viewers expressed their shock at the sight, while others reacted excitedly to the unusual scene. Some even suggested that the homeowner had gotten a big windfall.
One person said: That’s like the Motherlode of finds. That woodpecker was prepping his food storage. WOW cool story.
A second wrote: Wow. That’s a real hoarder.
While a third commented: Hard-working bird.I wish a magpie would put so much money down my chimney.
This unique case became an unforgettable experience for Castro, showing just how far nature can go to prepare for the future.
The incident serves as a reminder of the lengths wildlife will go to store food—even in unexpected places.
