Freddy is not just any dog; he holds the title of the world’s biggest dog.
Freddy is a Great Dane who stands at an impressive 7 feet 6 inches tall on his hind legs.
He has captured hearts around the globe.
A special bond with his owner
Freddy lives in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, with his devoted owner, Claire Stoneman. Claire, a former glamour model, prioritizes her pets above all else, including her love life.
“I’ve been single for almost four years. But I get cuddles from the dogs, and I don’t have to wash dirty laundry,” she shared with the Daily Star Sunday.
For Claire, Freddy and his sister Fleur are like children. “They need me, and it feels nice to be needed,” she added. Claire even shares her king-sized bed with Freddy.
A unique life of Freddy
Claire revealed she spent significant costs to care for such a large breed as Freddy.
Freddy weighs 14.5 stone, and Claire spends over £12,500 annually on his care. His favorite treats include whole roast chicken and peanut butter on toast.
As a puppy, Freddy had a destructive phase. He demolished 23 sofas before he realized how comfortable they could be. “I’d come home to find a sea of foam across the floor,” Claire recalled. “But he’s my baby. I can’t imagine life without him.”
While, Claire wakes up early to take Freddy for a 40-minute walk.
This routine ensures they avoid encounters with smaller dogs, which might feel intimidated by his size.
“If he wants to run after another dog, I wouldn’t be able to stop him,” Claire added.
Freddy is the world’s biggest dog
Freddy the Great Dane, recognized as the tallest living male dog. This gentle giant became an international sensation when his record was announced in 2016.
Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, had a vet measure Freddy. Freddy stood at 103.5 cm (3 ft 4 in) from foot to withers and reached 7 ft 5 in on his hind legs
His owner, Claire Stoneman of Leigh-on-Sea, described him as “not just the tallest dog, but the dog with the most love and the biggest heart,” noting he was a “total soppy bugger who was hand-fed.”
Freddy died at 8 years old
Sadly, Freddy passed away after living a remarkable 8 and a half years.
Claire expressed her deep love for Freddy: “He was my life, my joy, and my heart Dane. He was loved by everyone.”
Freddy was originally the runt of his litter and required extra care when he was adopted by Claire. “He was a gentle giant and always brought a smile to everyone’s face,” said Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records.
Freddy’s unique personality and massive size made him a beloved figure. Stoneman has been struggling with the loss but finds comfort in the love Freddy received during his life.
“I’ve been fighting tears that won’t stop falling,” she said in a Facebook post. “I find solace in knowing how much he was loved.”
