The image in question depicts a wild cat with scale-patterned fur in yellow and dark navy-to-black colors.

Social media users have claimed the species is named “Serpens Catus’, a name they say translates to “serpent” and “wise” in Latin.

This unique pattern has led to comparisons with snakes, especially the gold-ringed cat snake, known for its striking coloration.

Posts claim it is “the rarest species of feline on Earth,” allegedly found in remote areas of the Amazon rainforest.

According to these claims, images of the snake cat only emerged in 2020, with the animal weighing up to 56 pounds.

One Reddit user pointed out that basic research on species naming conventions would have made the name more believable.

However, others suggested that the viral picture of the ‘Amazon Snake Cat’ is a product of Photoshop.

One person said: All those colors better make sure his bite is not poisonous.

A second wrote: I am sure this made with midjourney or some other AI image generator.

While a third commented: Very hard to believe this animal’s real.

Another added: You can look at it and tell is a cat head copied to a snakes body and colored to match. That’s a pretty big and long snake though.
