A woman in the UK had a terrifying experience when she discovered a giant rat staring up at her from the toilet.

This unsettling encounter unfolded while she was using the bathroom, leaving her in shock and panic.

The incident points to the increasing issue of rats entering homes through drains. This problem has been growing more common recently.

A woman was shocked to discover a giant rat on the toilet.

The woman’s panic began when she noticed the massive rodent scuttling around in her toilet bowl.

Horrifying photos later revealed the rat’s claws and whiskers poking out of the water.

The animal, which had climbed up through the drains, eventually drowned while trapped upside down in the toilet.

Kieran Sampler, a professional rat catcher, was called in to remove the creature.

“The rat had gone up another line of the drain and entered the toilet while the woman was using it,” Sampler explained. “It was pretty bad – I’ve never encountered a rat coming up through a toilet before.”

The woman was left screaming in shock. She was shaken by the thought of the rat brushing against her while she used the bathroom.

A professional shared their perspective on the shocking discovery.

Kieran Sampler, with over 65,000 rats under his belt, shared that this was one of the more unusual cases in his career.

He explained that it’s not just toilets where rats can be found. “I once had a client with a rat living in the wooden slats of a bed,” he said.

Another time, a family trapped a rat brought in by their cat overnight.

Sampler’s trained Lakeland Terriers, Poppy and Penny, have been instrumental in dealing with rats quickly and humanely.

Rather than using traps or poison, Sampler opts for a more humane approach.

His dogs are trained to kill the rats in seconds, which he believes is kinder and quicker than traditional methods like poison.

“It’s more humane than using poison, which is why it’s not illegal,” he noted.

This method also prevents rats from being traumatized in cages, which can occur with trap-based removal.

According to Sampler, there has been a noticeable increase in rat sightings and infestations, particularly over the past few months.

He attributes this to several factors, including garden foliage, neglected areas, and poor waste management.

“This winter is going to be bad,” he warned. He mentioned that he’s already receiving calls from farmers preparing for the colder months.

Tips for preventing rats in your home

Rat infestations are on the rise, according to Sampler.

He recommends homeowners take proactive measures to prevent these unwanted guests from entering their property.

Trim Foliage

Rats love dense, overgrown gardens. Keeping your garden neat and cutting back heavy foliage can help deter them.

Rat-Proof decking

Decking can be a magnet for rats. Ensure that it’s properly sealed and proofed to prevent them from nesting underneath.

Manage bird feeders

While bird feeders are popular, they can attract rats. Try to rat-proof them or reduce their use in rat-prone areas.

Pick up dog waste

Dog feces can attract rats, so it’s essential to clean up after your pets promptly.

Check drains

Rats often enter homes through damaged drains. Ensuring that your drains are well-maintained can help keep them out.

This unsettling encounter serves as a reminder of the potential dangers lurking in our homes.

It is especially concerning when it comes to pests like rats.

Homeowners can reduce the risk of rat infestations by taking preventative measures and staying vigilant.

This helps ensure their homes remain safe and rat-free.
