In a heart-wrenching update, Kevin, the world’s tallest dog, has passed away just days after setting the Guinness World Record.
This three-year-old Great Dane from West Des Moines, Iowa, recently captured hearts worldwide with his incredible height and gentle nature.
However, his death also brings heartbreak and grief for his record-breaking achievement.
Kevin sets record as world’s tallest dog
Kevin was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the tallest living dog.
He was reported to stand at 3 feet 2 inches from feet to withers and about 7 feet on his hind legs.
Back in March, Kevin was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the tallest dog in the world, after Zeus, another Great Dane, passed away six months earlier in the United States. Zeus stood at 104.6 cm tall and died at the age of three due to bone cancer and pneumonia.
The dog is described as a wonderful giant boy
Kevin, named after the main character in “Home Alone,” joined his family following the death of their previous Great Dane.
From a young age, it was clear that Kevin was exceptionally large, even for his breed. Despite his size, Kevin was known as a “gentle giant,” often unaware of his own dimensions.
His owner, Tracy Wolfe, described how Kevin loved to squeeze into small spaces and engage in everyday dog activities like napping on the couch and cuddling.
Kevin passed away just 3 days before achieving the title of world’s tallest dog
Tragically, just three days after his record was announced, Kevin fell ill and required surgery.
The Guinness World Records organization announced on June 24th that Kevin, a three-year-old Great Dane, unexpectedly passed away after falling ill and undergoing surgery. Guinness cited a statement from Kevin’s owners, Tracy and Roger Wolfe, expressing the family’s sorrow.
Tracy expressed the family’s devastation, calling Kevin “the best giant boy.”
Guinness’s response to Kevin’s death just three days after breaking the record
The news of Kevin’s passing deeply saddened the Guinness World Records team. A spokesperson conveyed their condolences, recognizing the Wolfe family’s efforts to save Kevin and offering support during this difficult time.
On social media, Guinness World Records wrote on their X account (formerly Twitter).
They wrote: “The world’s tallest male dog Kevin has tragically died just days after his record-breaking achievement was announced to the world, Guinness World Records is saddened to learn.”
Addionally, racy Wolfe, Kevin’s owner, expressed to Guinness World Records that their entire family is devastated by Kevin’s passing, describing “He was just the best giant boy!”
In the previous post, they added: “We’re saddened to report the passing of Kevin, the world’s tallest dog, just days after his record was announced.”
On social media, many people have expressed sadness over Kevin’s death, while others have celebrated Kevin’s remarkable life, proud of his astonishing height. Some hope that Kevin will find eternal peace in another place.
